Khulo-Zarzma Road Reconstruction Commenced

Reconstruction of Khulo-Zarzma section of Batumi (Angisa) – Akhaltsikhe secondary road has commenced. The project is divided into two sections. Overall, 47 km of road and seven bridges will be rehabilitated. Two-lane asphalt-concrete road will be paved.

Mobilization and earthworks are currently ongoing at Khulo-Zarzma section. Rehabilitation works will actively start from May.

Upgraded Khulo-Zarzma road will connect Samtskhe-Javakheti and Adjara regions with a shortest route. Rehabilitated section will start from borough Khulo and end at Zarzma village of Adigeni, by passing through Goderdzi pass. An upgraded road will reduce travel time from Batumi to Akhaltsikhe by 1.5 hours.  

The mentioned project is also very important from the tourism perspective. It will allow local population to develop family business, hotels and other service facilities.

Reconstruction of Khulo-Zarzma road is funded by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED). Total cost of the project amounts to GEL 110, 210, 777. Reconstruction works are planned to be completed on October 2020.
