Winner Identified for Design of Anaklia Road and Railway Project

Australian Multinational Company SMEC has become a winner company and it will prepare a project for access road and railway to Anaklia Deep Sea port.

At the first stage of the tender, only four companies have shown their interest in Anaklia road and Railway project. Out of them only three companies moved to the stage of opening financial proposals. The best proposals, both technically and financially has been submitted by SMEC.

SMEC’s origins date back to the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme in 1949. SMEC and Surbana Jurong Group's partnership provides a talent pool of 14,500 people working across a network of more than 130 offices in 40+ countries throughout Asia, Australasia, Africa, the UK, Middle East and the Americas. Between 1949 and 1974, the Snowy Mountains Authority (SMA) undertook a massive hydro-electric and irrigation project. The project brought together over 100,000 workers from 30 countries who constructed 16 major dams, 7 power stations, 1 pumping station, 145 km of tunnels, 80 km of aqueducts and 2,000 km of roads. Annual turnover of the company is an average of USD 350-360 million dollars.

SMEC has to prepare a design documentation for access road and railway to Anaklia Deep Sea port during 7 months.

Competition for design work of the mentione project was held in two stages. In the first stage technical proposals were evaluated (assessment weight was 80%), and the second stage - financial proposals (the weight of the assessment was 20%).

For selecting a qualified contractor, Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia decided to select design documentation for Anaklia Deep Sea Project in a different manner. The form of the announced tender has been developed in accordance with the requirements of the procurement of international financial institutions and the requirements of the legislation for state procurement regulation.

The contractual cost of the project is 7 million GEL. 

The construction of the access road and railway to Anaklia Deep Sea port will be completed before operating of the Anaklia Deep Sea port.
