First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Chairman of the Roads Department, Irakli Karseladze, together with Deputy Chairmen met with the government delegation of Hunan province, one of the largest provinces of PRC. Hunan province is distinguished with construction technologies for roads, bridges and railway.    

In Georgia, Hunan Province based company, Hunan Road and Bridge Construction Group is constructing Khevi-Ubisa section of Rikoti pass road. Details of Khevi-Ubisa design and construction process was discussed during the meeting. The delegates expressed their willingness to support Hunan Road and Bridge Construction Group for successful completion of the project and provide appropriate assistance if necessary.

Mobilization and preparatory works are currently underway on site. Active construction works will commence in April.

The project envisages construction of four-lane road on Khevi-Ubisa 12.2 km section. Construction of 35 new bridges (18 bridges – in Tbilisi-Argveta direction, and 17 – in Argveta-Tbilisi direction) and 18 tunnels is planned. Arrangement of artificial structures, culverts and appropriate drainage systems will be carried out. Road safety measures will be taken. In addition, arrangement of 3 interchanges is planned. The first interchange will be arranged between Khunevi and Vertkvichala, the second interchange – in Sakasria and the third interchange – in Boriti.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is financing construction of Khevi-Ubisa 12.2 km section. This section will pass through the territory of Kharagauli municipality.

Project cost amounts to GEL 732, 296, 478, with 3 years construction terms.
