World Bank workshop was held at Biltmore Hotel. At the meeting, implementation issues of Output- and Performance-based Contract for rehabilitation and maintenance works of Georgian roads were discussed. Consultants of the World Bank and representatives of Roads Department submitted a presentation considering existing practice and contract results.  

First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Chairman of Roads Department Irakli Karseladze, relevant specialists of Roads Department and consultants of World Bank attended the meeting.

According to OPRC project, bidding winner company takes responsibility to carry out maintenance of the whole road network, including rehabilitation and subsequent works within 5 years. During first 2 years, the company will carry out road rehabilitation, and for the next 3 years – maintenance works. Remuneration for works will be carried out based on the results – road durability, instead of the volume of works.

This type of contract, funded by the World Bank, was started in April 2016, in pilot mode, in Kakheti region, at km 117 road and will be completed in 2021.

At the same time, under coordination of Roads Department and by financing of the World Bank, bidding documentation is under preparation in Guria region for road rehabilitation and maintenance within OPRC, which will be started in 2019.

At the workshop, prospect of growth of women involvement in road works was discussed. In addition, planning of preventive measures of the results caused by climate conditions of road network were discussed.
