Bid proposals were opened for construction of Khevi-Ubisa

Bid proposals of interested companies were opened on the international bidding announced for construction of Khevi-Ubisa section of Rikoti Pass road. A total of 10 companies submitted bid proposals. At the next stage, bid proposals will be reviewed and the winner company will be revealed in consultation with donor organization.

The project envisages construction of four-lane road on Khevi-Ubisa 12.2 km section. Construction of 35 new bridges (18 bridges – in Tbilisi-Argveta direction and 17 – in Argveta-Tbilisi direction) and 18 tunnels is planned on this section. Arrangement of artificial structures, culverts and appropriate drainage systems has been planned. Traffic safety measures will be carried out. In addition, arrangement of 3 interchanges is planned. The first interchange will be arranged between Khunevi and Vertkvichala, the second interchange – in Sakasria, and the third interchange – in Boriti.

Construction of Khevi-Ubisa 12.2 km section (section II) is financed by the Asia Development Bank (ADB). This section will pass through the territory of Kharagauli municipality.

In sum, construction of up to 51.6 km is planned on Rikoti Pass, including 96 bridges and 53 tunnels. Construction of Rikoti Pass section is divided into four sections: Chumateleti-Khevi section (section I) 11.7 km, Khevi-Ubisa section (section II) 12.2 km, Ubisa-Shorapani section (section III) 13 km and Shorapani-Argveta section (section IV) 14.7 km.

It should be noted that Rikoti Pass section is one of the most important parts of E60 East-West Highway. Development of East-West Highway represents the largest component of large-scale infrastructure projects planned within spatial development of the country.
