First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and Chairman of Roads Department Irakli Karseladze, together with Governor of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti inspected ongoing infrastructure projects.

“In order to improve road infrastructure, currently, 17 projects are ongoing with a total budget of 64 million GEL. A majority of projects will be completed this year. Also, construction of a new road connecting Zemo Imereti and Racha with each other should be noted, as a result of which, travel time will be reduced by 1 hour” – mentioned Irakli Karseladze.

Zemo Imereti-Oni connecting road will be approximately 60 km. The road starts from Sachkhere and passes through the following villages: Sareki, Kvemo Khevi, Uzunta, Shkmeri, Bokva, Kvashkhieti and Zudali. Finally, this section will join Ambrolauri-Oni road, which is 20 km away from Ambrolauri and 5 km away from Oni. The road goes from Uzunta towards Shkmeri.

Road construction is planned to be completed in five parts. At present, construction-reconstruction of the first 5.5 km section is underway. Design works are ongoing on remaining sections and after completion of which the bidding will be announced and the agreement will be signed on commencement of construction works. Completion of construction on all sections will be completed by 2020.

Zemo Imereti-Racha connecting road is very important in socio-economic terms. This road (eastern alternative) will recover Lechkhumi and Racha regions and promote their development.
