For the tourist season, construction of the 2^nd section of Kobuleti bypass road is completed and 18 km road will be put into operation from today. Transit traffic from the Kobuleti coastline was diverted to a new road. The new road will reduce travel time from Tbilisi to Batumi by 20-30 minutes.

An opening event of Kobuleti bypass road was attended by Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Maia Tskitishvili, Head of Government of Adjara Zurab Pataradze and representative of the Asian Development Bank in Georgia Yesim Elhan-Kayalar.

It is noteworthy that 2 tunnels and 15 bridges are constructed on Kobuleti bypass road, including the longest bridge in Georgia for now near the village of Sachino, with a length of 1 180 m.

Construction of the first section of Kobuleti bypass road was completed in 2014, first and second sections are 31.7 km in sum, which will fully relieve the Kobuleti coastline from transit traffic.

Kobuleti new bypass road is a very important project for the region and the country’s economy. Local and transit traffic in the territory of Adjara will be relieved, travel time will be significantly reduced as well as costs, respectively. Diversion of transit traffic from the Kobuleti coastline to the new road will promote ecological improvement of the resort and comprehensive development of tourism in the region.

The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and its contractual cost was GEL 209 852 079.
