Representatives of public and private sectors discussed traffic safety issues

First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and Chairman of Roads Department Irakli Karseladze and Deputy Minister Ilia Begiashvili met with representatives of NGOs interested in road safety issues.

Representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Georgian Alliance for Safe Roads, foundation Partnership for Road Safety, Transport and Road Association, Georgian Automobile Federation also participated in the meeting.

Participants of the working meeting discussed local management issues of traffic safety and agreed on  close cooperation in the future.

Irakli Karseladze introduced planned traffic safety events to NGOs. In order to ensure a legal base for road infrastructure, the Department plans to prepare a new draft law on roads. This document will regulate general principles of roads as well as infrastructure development and traffic safety topics.

A unified standard in the direction of international, secondary and local roads will be created. During development of traffic safety standard, special attention will be paid to improvement of safety norms on intercity roads. During preparation of the draft law, relevant agencies, field specialists, local and international experts will be involved.
