First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure and Chairman of Roads Department Irakli Karseladze, Deputy Chairmen of the Department and Governor of Kakheti Irakli Kadagishvili inspected construction progress of 15,5 km section of Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe road.

Gurjaani-Bakurtsikhe bypass road will connect Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Lagodekhi international road with Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe secondary road. Vehicles moving in this direction will be able to avoid passing through the town of Gurjaani and the following villages in Gurjaani municipality, without necessity: Bakurtsikhe, Kolagi, Dzirkoki, Chandari, Vejini and Chumlaki.

The new road will shorten the road from Telavi to Tbilisi and will make it safer. At present, it is narrow and passes through the densely populated territory of Vaziani-Bakurtsikhe-Gurjaani.

For now, 6 km road and 2 bridges are constructed, construction of a new bridge and rehabilitation of existing bridges are underway.

The project is financed by the World Bank within the Third Secondary and Local Roads Project (SLRPIII) and its cost is GEL 38 000 000. A total of 100 people are employed in the works.

After completion of the project, safety level and quality of Akhmeta-Telavi-Bakurtsikhe road will be improved, travel time and expenses will be reduced significantly.
