Roads Department completed cleaning works on the Duruji riverbed in Kvareli municipality ahead of schedule.

First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure and Chairman of Roads Department Irakli Karseladze, Deputy Chairmen of the Department and representatives of the Local Self-Government. 

The river Duruji is located in the town of Kvareli. The riverbed has not been cleaned for more than 20 years, as a result of which, periodically, mudflows carrying a large amount of mud originated from solid materials from the mountains were formed in the upper flow of Duruji, which created a danger of flooding the town.

In order to solve existing problems, the Duruji riverbed was cleansed from a large amount of accumulated solid material and measures against mudflows were undertaken. A length of cleansed section is 8 km, it starts at the source of the river Duruji and ends at the bridge crossing located on Kvareli-Telavi road.

The project was financed by the state budget and its cost amounted to GEL 12 544 000.

The contractor company will continue additional works on the river Duruji until June.
