Today, First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and Chairman of Roads Department Irakli Karseladze reviewed progress of projects financed by the Bank and future plans together with representatives of the World Bank.
In addition, at the meeting, planned activities regarding road safety and measures to be taken in the future have been emphasized.
The World Bank finances many road projects in Georgia, including construction projects of new roads, development projects of secondary and local roads, as a result of which traffic safety is improved, transportation costs and travel time are reduced, which in general significantly promotes economic development.
At present, the World Bank allocated $ 832 million to fund road projects, out of which $ 527 million is considered for construction of the East-West Highway and $ 305 million – for rehabilitation of secondary and local roads.
