First Deputy Chairman of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and Chairman of Roads Department Irakli Karseladze met with representatives of the company Peri and State Construction Company and discussed issues in connection with the progress of ongoing projects.  

Peri Ltd. carries out construction of Dariali tunnel and State Construction Company – access road to Stepantsminda-Sameba Church. Both projects are very important for Kazbegi municipality and for the region in respect of tourism and economy.

Over the past few years, disaster has been repeated several times in Dariali Gorge, which endangered movement of passengers on this section. Besides, in this period of time transit function was terminated on Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road, which, on average, amounted to almost GEL 1 million of daily financial loss for the country.

After construction of the tunnel, existing problem will be solved completely and safe traffic will be possible in Dariali Gorge. Tunnel construction is also necessary for keeping Georgia’s transit function and the country will have a stable transit route in this direction.

With regard to the access road to Stepantsminda-Sameba Church, after completion of the project, tourists, local residents and pilgrims will be able to use an upgraded and comfortable road to Gergeti Trinity Church instead of a ground and damaged road.

Construction of Dariali tunnel will be completed within the dates specified in the agreement. At this stage, design changes are ongoing on the access road to Stepantsminda-Sameba Church, after which, works will be actively upgraded.
