Kobuleti bypass road will promote tourism development

Construction of the 2nd section of Kobuleti bypass road is at the final stage. A new road will be put into operation in the summer, before the tourist season begins, and it will reduce travel time from Tbilisi to Batumi by 20-30 minutes approximately.

By the order of Roads Department, a new 18 km road section was constructed on 2nd Lot of Kobuleti bypass road.

A total of 15 bridges are located on this section. The new technology of Movable Scaffolding System was used to construct these bridges. The new technology was used to construct the longest bridge crossing in Georgia at the village of Sachino, its length is 1 180 m. About 400 people are employed in the civil works.

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Maia Tskitishvili, together with the Head of Government of Adjara Autonomous Republic Zurab Pataridze, inspected Kobuleti bypass road.

Construction of the first section of Kobuleti bypass road is completed, traffic on the second section will be freed up in the summer, which will fully relieve Kobuleti coastline from transit traffic.

Construction of Kobuleti bypass road is an important project for the region and the country’s economy, since transit traffic in Adjara territory will be facilitated, travel time will be reduced as well as expenses.

The project is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and its contractual cost is GEL 209 852 079.67.

Roads Department will soon start construction of the 13 km section of Batumi bypass road. The project envisages construction of 2-lane asphalt road, 19 bridge crossings, 4 interchanges, 5 tunnels and 57 culverts. After implementation of the project, Batumi bypass road together with Kobuleti bypass will fully relieve traffic in the Adjara resort zone.

Diversion of transit traffic from the Adjara coastline to the new road will promote road safety, ecological recovery of the resort and comprehensive development of tourism in the region.
