From now on movement toward the ruins of a historic fortress of Tsutskhvati will be ensured through a rehabilitated road. Orpiri-Tsutskhvati-Mgvime rehabilitated road with a length of 10.5 km was opened by the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Zurab Alavidze together with the representatives of local self-government.

Orpiri-Tsutskhvati-Mgvime section is located in Imereti region, in the territory of Tkibuli municipality and passes through the following villages: Orpiri, koka, Okhomira and Tsutskhvati. A road to be rehabilitated starts from a turn existing at km 9 of Kutaisi (Motsameta) –Tkibuli-Ambrolauri secondary road and ends at the village of Tsutskhvati. This section has not been rehabilitated for more than 30 years and the road has been almost fully amortized.

Full rehabilitation of the road was implemented to resolve existing problems. Cement concrete pavement was arranged. Shoulders, ditches, gabion support walls, road signs, bus stops, steel ropes and parapets were arranged, arrangement works of junctions and entrances to private yards were implemented. An existing bridge crossing was rehabilitated.

This section goes to the ruins of a historic fortress of Tsutskhvati and the beginning of a mountain trail going to the limestone cave, which is very important in terms of tourism.

In order to avoid damage to the existing caves, instead of a last 274 m section of the road to be rehabilitated, a hiking trail with granite beams (so-called “brutashka”) and a car parking were arranged.

The project was funded from the state budget in the amount of GEL 7 971 600.  Works started in August 2016 and were completed by the end of 2017. A total of 270 people were employed within the project.
