Within the framework of the E60 East West Highway Improvement Project, Roads Department of Georgia starts the construction of up to 15 km section of Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti (eastern portal of the Rikoti Pass).

Regarding the construction of Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti (Lot II) road, the Contract was signed between Roads Department and the company which won the construction bidding. The agreement was signed by Deputy Chairman of Roads Department Aleksandre Tevdoradze and a representative of Italian construction company ASTALDI S.P.A Andrea Danese.

Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti 15 km section goes to the Rikoti Pass tunnel. Using this road, you will be able to bypass Khashuri, Surami, Chumateleti from the north and go out at the Rikoti tunnel.

Within the project: 4 lane cement concrete road, 21 bridges, 5 tunnels, reinforced concrete underpasses, culverts and drainage systems will be constructed.

Zemo Osiauri-Chumateleti section is a part of the main transit highway of the country and after putting this section into operation, road conductivity of the highway and traffic safety level of vehicles will be increased and travel time will be reduced.

Construction works are being financed by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The cost of the Contract is 353 729 415 GEL. Period of construction works is 2017-2020.

The mentioned section is a part of spatial development of the country – one of the most important directions of the 4-point plan - an initiative of Prime Minister George Kvirikashvili.
