Roads Department carries out bank and riverbed protection works of the Rioni river adjacent to a runway of Ambrolauri Airport which is under construction.

Construction of bank protection wall is being carried out using a new technology in 4 districts, on a section with a total length of 1037 m.

The new technology implies the use of cement of excavated and crushed mass and ash of a specific amount. Reinforcement of protective wall is being carried out through the covering of the basalt grid by concrete layer. Mentioned technology is used for the first time in Georgia. The advantage of the new technology is reduction of construction cost and acceleration of paces.

After implementation of the project, bank protection structure will protect the airport, its surrounding area and the coastline of Rioni river from flooding.

Works are being financed by the state budget and its cost is GEL 2 011 000. The project started in December 2016 and will be completed in summer this year. A total of 70 people are employed in the works.
