Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia carries out the construction of a tunnel at the crossing point between Dariali and Devdoraki gorges.

Currently, construction works of the tunnel are actively underway. Within the project, a tunnel with a length of 1.7 km will be constructed, and a width of its carriageway will be 8.5 m. Works in design-construction mode will be carried out by the organization Ltd Peri, the winner of the bidding. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Zurab Alavidze and Chairman of Roads Department George Seturidze inspected ongoing works on-site.

In Dariali Gorge, disaster has been repeated several times in the past few years, which endangered the movement of passengers on this section, besides, in this period of time transit function was about to terminate on Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road, which, on average, amounted to almost 1 million GEL of daily financial loss for the country.

Accordingly, the construction of Devdoraki tunnel is necessary for keeping Georgia’s transit function and the country will be able to have a stable and safe road.

The cost of the project is GEL 47 179 224 and it is financed by the state budget.
