Roads Department starts construction of 14 km section of Batumi bypass road within E60 highway. Financial bids of international bidding, announced for construction of Batumi bypass road, were opened. A total of 22 companies submitted financial bids, out of which 10 companies were selected and the financial bids suggested by them will be evaluated. The project is being implemented with the joint financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Within the framework of Batumi bypass road, two-lane asphalt concrete road, 19 bridge crossings, 4 interchanges, 5 tunnels and 57 culverts will be constructed. The period of construction works is 2017-2020. Existing road passes through the tourist and residential zone and poses the problems for international transit vehicles moving in the narrow streets. In order to solve the problem, the first section of Kobuleti bypass road has already been constructed and the second section is under construction. Besides mentioned sections, Batumi bypass road will fully relieve traffic in the Adjara resort zone and transit turnout will be increased. New Batumi bypass road will pass through: Makhinjauri, Gantiadi, Kapreshumi, Salibauri, Peria, Makhvilauri and Khelvachauri.

Mentioned section is a part of the country’s spatial development – important direction of 4-point plan initiated by Prime Minister.

E60-E70 highway is the shortest road connecting the countries of Europe and Asia with each other. Physical location of the highway ensures its role as a key transport route among the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and Central Asia.
