Roads Department is carrying out reinforcement works for the floodplain of the Rioni River adjacent to the airport runway.

Construction of bank protective wall is being carried out using new technology in two districts on 800 m section in total.

New technology implies using a specific amount of excavated and crushed material of cement and ash. Reinforcement of the protective wall is being carried out by covering basalt mesh with concrete layer. Mentioned technology is being used for the first time in Georgia. The advantage of the technology is an acceleration of construction pace and reduction of prices for construction of bank protective structure.

After implementation of the project, bank protection structure will protect the airport, coastline of the Rioni River and surrounding area from flooding.

Works are being implemented by the state budget and the cost is GEL 1 561 000. The project started in December 2016 and will be completed in May this year.
