Design of Dzirula-Kharagauli and Samtredia-Zugdidi bypass roads starts

Agreements between Roads Department and the company “Kocks”, which is the winner in two international biddings, have been signed. Agreements were signed by Deputy Chairman of Roads Department Aleksandre Tevdoradze and representative of a German design company “Kocks” Carsten Grease.

Within the first Agreement, for rehabilitation of the 50 km section of Dzirula-Kharagauli-Moliti-Pona-Chumateleti road the following documents shall be prepared: detailed design, bidding documentation, Environmental Impact Assessment, Land acquisition and Resettlement detailed plans. The project shall be prepared within 9 months and its cost is USD 1 231 566 and GEL 1 249 030. Works are being financed by the Asian Development Bank.

After implementation of the project, residential conditions, connections with trade and tourist sites for population of up to 20 villages will be improved. Road safety level will be increased.

The second Agreement envisages preparation of pre-feasibility study and feasibility study documents for construction of 90 km Samtredia-Zugdidi bypass road (including the access road to the Anaklia Sea Port). Term for preparation of documents is 9 months and cost of works is USD 1 349 743 and GEL 2 064 410. Design of this alignment will be financed by the World Bank.

After completion of construction of Samtredia-Zugdidi bypass road (including the access road to the Anaklia Sea Port), traffic will be far more comfortable, road safety level will be increased, road transportation costs will be reduced and transit movement will be facilitated.

Mentioned roads are the main part of spatial development of the country, which is an important direction of 4-point plan initiated by Prime Minister.
