The arch bridge was constructed in the 1940s and  there has been no full rehabilitation for almost 90 years. Intermediate piers, arches and concrete pavements, that endangered traffic safety and  transportation of heavy load on the bridge, were too damaged.

Within the rehabilitation of the bridge at the Mtkvari (Kura) River, abovementioned problems will be fully resolved. The project envisages: reinforcement of bridge piers, repair of superstructure and regulatory walls; arrangement of the carriageway and access roads to the bridge.  Besides, the arrangement works of road signs, marking of the bridge carriageway, encircling and arrangement works of tiles will be carried out.

As a result of implementing works, vehicles using Kaspi-Kavtiskhevi road will be able to move  safely and comfortably on the renewed bridge.

At this stage, an arrangement of gabion support wall and repairing works of intermediate piers and superstructure are ongoing. Deputy Chairman of the Roads Department Givi Chochia has inspected mentioned works on site.

The project started in November 2016 and will be completed in June this year. Works were financed by the state budget and the cost is GEL 1 110 687. A total of 25 people are employed on works.
