The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia starts construction of the third section of Samtredia-Grigoleti road under E60 highway. Invitation for participation in international bidding of construction has already been announced.
Construction of the 12 km section (Lot III) of Samtredia-Grigoleti road is financed by the European Investment Bank. The project envisages construction of four-lane asphalt concrete road, 6 bridge crossings, 2 transportation interchanges, field and cattle passes. The mentioned road section will pass through the villages of Lanchkhuti Municipality and the city of Lanchkhuti located in Guria region.
Samtredia-Grigoleti road starts at km 42 of Zestaponi-Kutaisi bypass-Samtredia road at river Ochopa and Grigoleti area, and ends at river Supsa. The project for modernization of the mentioned road into the highway is being implemented in 4 sections (lots). At the first, second and fourth sections the works are already underway.
The project aims to improve the capacity of high-intensity international road for the increased traffic flows, ensure road safety and uninterrupted transit traffic.
Construction of the mentioned road section is a part of spatial development of the country, which is considered in four-point Governmental reform plan initiated by Prime Minister George Kvirikashvili.
The project will be implemented between 2016 and 2018.
