First Stage of “Make Our Roads Safe” campaign is over

The closing event of “Make Our Roads Safe” campaign’s first stage was held in Poti, at the State Drama Theater. Deputy Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia Irakli Khergiani presented a report for audience attending the event about activities carried out during the campaign and informed them about the future recommendations. The winners of the contests, conducted during the campaign, were awarded. A social video presentation also took place at the event.

The goal of the project was to raise awareness and knowledge about road safety on the E60 highway and its surrounding areas. The campaign has been going on for 4 months already and a number of educational measures were implemented within its framework, including:

-          24 meetings with drivers of cars, transit and public transports, who permanently use the E60 highway;

-          Educational trainings for about 1500 schoolchildren from 15 schools located near the highway.

The meetings included both the theoretical and practical parts, among them measures for visibility and giving the light reflective means (reflectors, waistcoats) to the pedestrians. Within the campaign there were held a number of joint events together with the private and public sectors. The famous people were also participating in solidarity campaign of the project.

The project was implemented by Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and non-governmental organization “Partnership for Road Safety”, and was funded by the World Bank.
