According to the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the disaster relief works are underway in Dariali Gorge. Up to 40 units of heavy equipment are mobilized, works related to transportation of inert materials and installation of access roads are ongoing. For the moment, the representatives of the Department are waiting for lowering of the level of Terek River and then the heavy equipment will start the road restoration works.

Due to the natural disaster activation process on June 23 at 18:00, there was banned the road traffic for any kind of transport in the dangerous zone, on the road section 134km-135km of Mtskheta-Stephantsminda- Larsi highway.

As a result of heavy rain, the torrent flowing from the Devdoraki Gorge blocked the river-bed of Terek, consequently it changed its direction and about 800m road section of Mtskheta-Stephantsminda-Larsi highway was swept away by the floodwaters.

It is the second day as the chairman of the Roads Department - George Seturidze, his deputy chairman - Irakli Khergiani and the appropriate services of the Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia remain in the disaster zone.

The disaster relief works are being implemented by the Ltd. “State Construction Company”.
