Construction of evacuation structure at km 136 of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road is implemented by the order of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.
This kind of project is the first in Georgian and in case of disaster it will ensure safe evacuation of passengers , personnel of Customs Department and workers of nearby construction projects.
Deputy Chairman of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Maia Kaliashvili and Director of State Construction Company Ioseb Ozashvili inspected ongoing works.
At this time, placement of cross-bars in rocks completed and concrete pavement works on the path started. After completion of mentioned works, piers and stairs shall be arranged.
Project considers construction of 208,80 m long and 2,25 m wide evacuation corridor on the rock slope. Twenty-four hours duty is provided in guardroom specially arranged on the glacier Devdoraki. Relevant services shall promptly close the traffic in disaster zone if alarm is declared.
Works started in July 2015 and completion is expected in 2016. Project cost is GEL 1 mln 200 thousands.
50 persons are employed on works and most of them are locals.
