Kobi-Gudauri road is open for light vehicles

Kobi-Gudauri section of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road is open after 5 days closure.

Traffic for light vehicles has been resumed by application of antiskid chains after elimination of avalanche hazard as a result of cleaning works implemented by Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.

Kobi-Gudauri section was closed at late night on January 23 upon the recommendation of National Environmental Agency so movement between Georgia and Russia has been restricted till now. Even implementation of cleaning works was forbidden on mentioned section.

Currently special restrictions are established on different sections of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road:

  • Due to snow, frost and clear ice, traffic on Aragvispiri-Gudauri-Larsi section of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road is forbidden for trailers, semi-trailers and for buses with more than 30 seats;
  • Movement for light vehicles on Gudauri(Posta)-Kobi section is permitted by application of antiskid chains. Movement is free for vehicles with two or more main axis. Traffic on respective section is admissible through the avalanche protection tunnels without stoppage.
    • Stoppage of vehicles is not allowed during movement along km134-km135 section (Dariali gorge).
