Cleaning works are actively progressing

Based on information of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, traffic is resumed on Rikoti pass (Chumateleti-Khevi) for trailers and semi-trailers as a result of implemented cleaning works. Accordingly, traffic is free on mentioned road for all mode of transport.

Traffic on Bobokvati-Batumi section is possible without application of antiskid chains and movement in this direction is free. Restrictions remain on Choloki bridge -Sarpi section, whereon movement is forbidden for trailers and semi-trailers.

Movement on Tbilisi bypass road is resumed for trailers and semi-trailers.

Currently, the most difficult situation is in Guria region, wherein is still snowing heavily. Snow cover exceeds one meter in some areas. Movement on central roads of Guria is maintained as a result of continued cleaning works which have been progressing during the whole night and day in the conditions of heavy snow. Due to complicated conditions, traffic is restricted on secondary Ozurgeti-Lesa and Shukhuti-Dzimiti roads.

In view of created circumstances, it became necessary to mobilize additional machinery. Intensive cleaning works are ongoing by this time.

Restrictions on other roads:

  • Movement on Gudauri(Posta)-Kobi section is forbidden due to avalanche hazard;
  • Traffic for trailers and  semi-trailers is restricted on: Nakerala Pass, Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura road and Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Lagodekhi road;
    • Movement on Mleta- Gudauri(Posta) section and Gombori pass is allowed by application of antiskid chains. Cleaning works are underway during 24 hours. Representatives of Supervision Unit of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia carry out on-site coordination and monitoring of ongoing cleaning works. 

In view of created circumstances, Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia urges population to use winter tyres, technically acceptable vehicles and follow traffic restrictions established on roads.
