As a result of cleaning works undertaken by Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia all main roads are operable throughout the country.   Traffic restrictions established on international and secondary roads due to heavy snow are minimized.

It should be noted that 111 depots are functioning throughout Georgia wherein snow cleaning machinery, human resources and reserves of technical salt are mobilized.  Depots and Contractors responsible for winter maintenance are working during 24 hours. Representatives of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia provide onsite supervision and coordinate ongoing cleaning works. 

Nodar Javakhishvili Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is personally carrying out monitoring of roads condition in West Georgia.

We would like to remind you that since 31 December, 2015 movement in high mountainous regions of west Georgia has been complicated due to abundant precipitation. Namely, traffic restrictions started in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi, Adjara and Guria regions due intense snow and abundant precipitation.  Relevant divisions of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia have been working day and night for several days in order to maintain roads operable and functional in the conditions of 70-80 cm snow. 

Movement was particularly complicated in West Georgia on January 3-4, whereon visibility was limited due to snow-storm and heavy snow. Clear ice and snow piles were formed on roads.

Difficult situation was in Kakheti; namely, on Vaziani-Gombori and Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe road whereon traffic is resumed by now.  Cleaning works were ongoing during 24 hours. For today, sand and salt dissemination continues.

Rikoti bypass road is open; restriction for trailers and semi-trailers is removed. It should be noted that traffic was restricted for prevention purposes, as in case of trailers cause delays in the condition of frost than the risk of closing the whole road would exist.
