Access to Martkopi Monastery is possible by rehabilitated road

Deputy Chairman of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Irakli Khergiani inspected rehabilitation works on Vaziani-Martkopi-Norio-Ghvtaeba road.

Vaziani-Martkopi-Norio-Ghvtaeba road has not been upgraded for 30 years and road was so damaged that in rainy weather it was impassable. Rehabilitation started in the second half of the current year.

Section to be rehabilitated connects 3 villages: Saakadze, Martkopi and Norio with each other, also with Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Lagodekhi international road. Mentioned road leads to the VI century historical monument - Martkopi Ghvtaeba Church and makes it important in terms of tourism promotion.

Rehabilitation of 6,5 km section of Vaziani-Martkopi-Norio-Ghvtaeba road considers construction of asphalt-concrete pavement,  arrangement of entrances to private yards, public transport stops and enclosed bus stops. Also one existing bridge will be rehabilitated and one new bridge crossing would be constructed. At this stage construction of the carriageway base and structures are ongoing.

The cost of the project is GEL 5 333 330 and it is financed from the state budget. Rehabilitation will be completed at the end of the year.
