Traffic at Paravani pass section (previously Tikmantazhi pass) of Koda-Partskhisi-Manglisi-Tsalka-Ninotsminda road has been restored after 2 days of cleaning works performed by relevant services of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. Considering St. George Feast, people will be able to travel in the direction of Ninotsminda using the short route.

Movement at mentioned road section was forbidden due to heavy frost, snow-storm, snow-drift and limited visibility.

It should be noted that Paravani pass is characterized by severe climate during winter. Heavy snow, snow-storm and heavy frost frequently occur simultaneously. During such periods road cleaning works are not effective, because in a few minutes the carriageway is again filled with the snow-drift brought by strong wind, limiting the visibility and making it impossible to determine the direction and continue the way. There are no populated areas nearby and if get stuck, people’s lives are in danger.

Due to weather deterioration a week ago, road users, patrol police and emergency response group that arrived to help these people could not manage to get out of the pass section. They were moved out by our services as a result of the cleaning works executed under severe conditions.

In view of above mentioned factors, due to the weather deterioration, Paravani pass section of Koda-Partskhisi-Manglisi-Tsalka-Ninotsminda road will close for safety of people and till long-term weather improvement, traffic in the direction of Ninotsminda will be conducted through Khashuri-Akhaltsikhe-Ninotsminda road.
