Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia provides photo materials reflecting rehabilitated Becho-Turbaza-Shikhra section in the category of weekly pictures gallery.

Rehabilitation of 7km Becho-Turbaza-Shikhra secondary road is actively processing.

Mentioned section connects Dolasvipi, Ushkhvanari, Chokhuldi and Doli villages, located at the south slope of the Greater Caucasus Range, with the regional center of Mestia and  other regions of the country, also with border police station and border guard posts. Tourists use this road to access the top of Mount Ushba and tourist center “Shikhra”. Asphalt-concrete pavement was arranged only at 1.5 km section and it was so damaged that local residents and tourists had to move in difficult conditions.

Project considers construction of asphalt-concrete pavement and one new bridge, arrangement of entrances to private yards, public transport stops and enclosed bus stops, also upgrading of culverts, supporting walls, shoulders, ditches, gabions and road signs.  By that time asphalt-concrete is paved on 1km section. Bridge piling works are ongoing.

As a result of road rehabilitation, social and economic conditions of local residents will be considerably improved as full operation and functioning of the road is very important for local tourism promotion.

Project is financed from the state budget and its cost is GEL 5mln 412 thousand.
