Construction of 295 m long tunnel at Kobuleti bypass road is being implemented by application of a new Austrian tunneling method, which considers tunneling by selection of optimized support. In case of soft soil, temporary supports are provided, which shows angular deformation and enables to correct them before construction of final supports.  Mentioned method is adopted in many developed countries.

Deputy Chairman of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Mr. Irakli Litanishvili inspected progress of tunnel construction.

Two tunnels will be built on Kobuleti Bypass road under LOT 2. At this stage, construction of the first tunnel is ongoing. Project envisages construction of 18 km asphalt-concrete pavement, 15 bridges, 2 tunnels and 64 culverts.

Project budget is GEL 209 million. Donor organization is Asian Development Bank (ADB).
