Planned cleaning works are progressing on roadside rocks along the highway on request of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.

Deputy Chairman of Roads Department Irakli Litanishvili inspected works progress at  Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road.

For prevention purposes, rock strata are cleaned annually; though due to abundant precipitation rock slide process has been activated within the last years and rock fall related problems became actual (especially on international roads, where traffic intensity is high).

Cleaning works are ongoing on international Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road, whereon is planned to strengthen rock mass with nets in order to eliminate rock-fall problems (rock fall related problem was settled on Poti-Batumi-Sarpi road by application of the same technology in 2013-2014).

This year rock fall prevention works started on the main road of the country in August and shall be completed in October. Currently, Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestaponi  and Batumi-Akhaltsikhe-Kedi sections are cleaned. Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze (km154 of Rikoti bypass section) shall be completed by October, also cleaning of rock slopes along Khashuri-Borjomi, Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia and Borjomi-Bakuriani-Akhalkalaki roads shall be completed by October.

Professional alpinists perform cleaning of roadside rock slopes in line with international safety norms by application of modern equipments.
