25 June, 2015 00:00:00

Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia together with the World Bank hosted donors’ coordination meeting to discuss funding of Rikoti-Argveta section of East-West Highway. On the meeting the findings of the feasibility study of Rikoti and Argveta sections of the East-West Highway Corridor was examined. The overall objective of the meeting is to encourage better donor coordination in the transport sector in Georgia, to share views among donors on the current state of the transport sector and to discuss related issues and strategy.

The East-West Highway carries over 60 percent of the total foreign trade and is seen as a central piece in the Government's strategy of transforming Georgia into a transport and logistics hub for trade between Central Asia and the Far East on the one hand, and Turkey and Europe on the other hand. The Government has in recent years accorded high priority to completing the upgrading of the East-West Highway Corridor to international motorway standards (2x2 lanes), and is committed to completing the East-West Highway Corridor project by 2020.

Today’s meeting was attended by government officials and representatives of donor organizations.
