Today, Chairman of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Vazha Panchulidze made a public presentation of a report about activities carried out by Roads Department in 2014. The projects implemented by Roads Department in 2014 for the development of road infrastructure amounted to GEL 526 million and the budget planned for the development and operation of road infrastructure was performed by 97%.

During 2014, priority area of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia in road sector has been the highway construction projects. Last year, additional 40 km of new road was opened along the highway (Kutaisi bypass 32 km and Ruisi-Agara 8 km section) that is 24.6 km more compared to 2013 and 38.5 km more compared to 2012.

Last year the highway construction activities progressed at 7 different project sites, overall at 131 km road. Rehabilitation works were implemented at 265 km section including access roads to temples and touristy places. Capital repair was done to 42 bridges, 11 new bridges were constructed under the rehabilitation project.

Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia implements the projects related to road infrastructure development with funding from Georgian state budget and donor organizations.  GEL 36.7 million was spent from the budget to cover routine repair and winter maintenance works of roads.

In 2014, shore protection activities were carried out at 26 project sites. Prompt disaster prevention and liquidation measures were executed at 31 project sites for which GEL 9.179.000 was spent.

In 2014, Loan Agreement in the amount of USD 93.75 million was concluded between the Government of Georgia and the World Bank for Third Secondary and Local Roads Project (SLRP III), which envisages rehabilitation of various road sections with length of more than 200 km.  

Presentation of the report was attended by the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Davit Shavliashvili, state governors, representatives of donor organizations and media.
