Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Mr. Davit Shavliashvili, Chairman of Roads Department Vazha Panchulidze, the Governor of Kakheti region, Irakli  Shiolashvili and the World Bank representative opened together newly rehabilitated 6,4 km section of secondary Chalaubani-Sighnaghi-Anaga road. After the official opening Mr. Davit Shavliashvili and other officials of the ministry met with local population and received detailed information about their needs and requirements.

Mentioned secondary road serves 10 villages of Sighnaghi Municipality and is the only route, which connects these villages to the municipal center. 20 000 people constantly use this road. From today, travel time from the village to the center will be reduced twice, also transport costs will be reduced and movement will become more safe and comfortable.

Rehabilitated section of Chalaubani-Sighnaghi-Anaga Road (km16-22-km) starts in Sighnaghi district and joins international Tbilisi-Bakurtikhe-Lagodekhi road in the territory of Anaga. The project was implemented under SLRP II (the Secondary and Local Roads Project II) and its cost amounted to GEL 3 222 900. The World Bank financed rehabilitation works and the company  "Caucasautomagistral" implemented rehabilitation works. Almost 50 people were employed on rehabilitation works and 50% of them are locals.

The project considered: construction of carriageway, structures, curbs, entrances to the private yards and sidewalks. Existing culverts were repaired and new ones were arranged. Road signs were installed and road marking works were implemented. Also, reinforced-concrete supporting walls and junctions were arranged.

Roads Department of Georgia implements 23 projects in Kakheti region this year - including road rehabilitation works and bank protection works.
