Today, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Davit Shavliashvili and Chairman of Roads Department, Vazha Panchulidze have officially opened 13.4 km. rehabilitated section of Kveda Sakara-Sazano road. World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus, Henry Kerali and the First Deputy Governor of Imereti, Aleko Iosebashvili attended opening ceremony.
Roads Department is implementing 31 projects, including rehabilitation and construction of sections (highway), in Imereti region during this year.
Rehabilitation of local Kveda Sakara-Sazano road started in September 2013. Cost of the project amounted to GEL 6 532 thousand. Rehabilitation of mentioned section is implemented by financing of the World Bank.
Construction Company “Black Sea Group” implemented rehabilitation of the road and 1 bridge. Almost 150 persons were employed on the project and 50% of them were local residents.
Design envisaged construction of ditches, gabions and culverts; Sidewalks, entrances to private yards, junctions to local roads, enclosed bus stop and road signs were arranged. At the same time, 24 m bridge exiting over the river Buzha was rehabilitated.
Respective section never had asphalt pavement. More than 10 villages used gravel road. As a result of project implementation road network will be improved that, in its turn, will make a positive impact on the social-economic condition of the population and movement will become more comfortable and safe.
After the road opening ceremony, Minister and Chairman met with local population and introduced them ongoing and future projects to be implemented in Imereti. They also received information about the needs and requirements of the population.
