Feasibility study and preliminary design for rehabilitation of 50 km Dzirula-Kharagauli-Chumateleti road is under preparation based on the assignment given by Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.  Feasibility study and preliminary design is being prepared under Dzirula -Chumateleti road development project with financing of the Asian Development Bank by consulting company Kocks Consult.  

Chairman of Roads Department, Vazha Panchulidze and the First Deputy Chairman Nugzar Gasviani are in the village Moliti, wherein presentation of feasibility study and preliminary design of Dzirula -Chumateleti road was held. The meeting was attended by Majority Deputy of Kharagauli Nodar Ebanoidze, State Representative of Imereti Region  - First Deputy Governor Aleko Iosebashvili, officials of Kocks Consult, representatives of ADB and residents of more than 10 villages.  

Dzirula-Kharagauli-Chumateleti section is connection between Kharagauli Municipality and E-60 highway. Also, it is the main international artery and connects main cities of Georgia with each other. Design road goes along the river Chkherimela and also Khashuri-Kharagauli-Zestaponi railway. Local population had movement related problems for years; the existing road was never covered with asphalt layer. More than 37 000 local residents used gravel road, which was preventing social and economic development of the village.

Rehabilitation of Dzirula-Kharagauli-Moliti-Pona-Chumateleti road considers: construction of asphalt pavement; rehabilitation-reconstruction of bridges, drainage pipes and ditches, also provision of bank protection works, road marking and installation of safety barriers.

Project implementation will promote to improvement of living conditions of more than 20 villages, mobility of population, and connection with trade and tourist sites; also level of road traffic safety will be enhanced.

Feasibility study and preliminary design of Dzirula –Kharagauli-Chumateleti road will be completed by the end of 2014, afterwards the first stage is preparation of detailed design and then rehabilitation works will launch.
