Existing situation in Dariali Gorge

Yesterday on 20th August, late at night landslide occurred at km134 of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi road. Due to torrent deposits the carriageway has been blocked, Dariali Gorge and tunnel of the power plant was closed.

Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia, Vazha Panchulidze and other representatives of the Department are in disaster zone and survey the situation.

15 units of machinery belonged to State Constriction Company are mobilized on site. About 50 people are working on site and cleaning works are underway. The number of machinery will be increased by the end of the day. Rescue-searching works are progressing simultaneously. Team of geologists have been surveyed the situation since morning and will provide the initial evaluation.

River bed of the river Tergi is changed due to the rock mass collapsed from the glacier; therefore protective dam was arranged that enabled to stop flow of Tergi River on the road. Works related to deepening of Tergi river bed is underway.

Precise amount of the damage shall be defined. Liquidation works of storm damage shall be fully covered by the Government.
