Chairman of Roads Department of Georgia, Vazha Panchulidze, Head of Roads Rehabilitation and Monitoring Division, Avtandil Gvazava and the First Deputy of State Governor in Imereti Region, Aleko Iosebashvili inspected road rehabilitation works in Zestaponi and Baghdati.

In Zestaponi municipality, the population of Kveda Sakara-Sazano village had movement related problems for years, the existing road was never covered with asphalt layer and residents of more than 10 villages used gravel road, which was preventing social and economic development of the village. Roads Department of Georgia, with the financial support of the World Bank, is implementing the works for rehabilitation of Kveda Sakara-Sazano road, which will lead to safe and more comfortable movement along this road, reduced travel time and costs. The works in the amount of GEL 6 500 000 cover rehabilitation of 13.4 km section and the bridge with length of 24 meters. The project envisages: construction of new pavement, entrances to private yards, works related to enclosed bus stops, sidewalks, road signs and marking. About 150 people have been employed for mentioned rehabilitation works, out of which 50% are local residents. The project commenced in September 2013 and will be completed in autumn 2014.

Roads Department is implementing the works in the amount of GEL 4 million in Baghdati municipality. Zestaponi-Baghdati road has not been rehabilitated for several decades, carriageway was absolutely amortized. Rehabilitation of 8.5 km road is financed by the state budget. The project envisages restoration of the pavement, construction of structures, entrances to private yards, ditches and gabions. At this stage, the works related to road bed, placement of pipes at entrances to yards are ongoing. Total length of Zestaponi-Baghdati road is 21 km, out of which rehabilitation of 5 km road has already been completed and another 8.5 km will be rehabilitated by the end of this year.
