Monitoring of works continue in Adjara region

Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, George Amashukeli and Chairman of Roads Department Davit Shavliashvili under the scope of monitoring of regional works met with representatives of Sinohydro, which constructs Kobuleti Bypass road in Adjara region. They got acquainted with project details and also inspected bank protection works in Sarpi.

Construction of Kobuleti bypass road started in May 2013 by financing of Asian Development Bank and will be completed in 2016. Kobuleti bypass road is a part of central highway -Adjara bypass road. Construction of 12,4 km long section of Kobuleti bypass road (Section I) completed previous year. At this stage, construction of Lot II – 18,9 km section is underway. 620 persons are engaged in construction activities. Cost of Lot II of  Kobuleti bypass road amounts to GEL 209 mln. Project envisages arrangement of 18,9 km asphalt-concrete pavement; also construction of 16 bridges, among them 7 overpasses; 2 tunnels and 64 culverts. Construction of 6 bridges is completed. Construction of asphalt-concrete pavement on the carriageway is remained. 41 structures were arranged including culverts and underpasses; currently, arrangement of piles and piers on 4 bridges is underway; slope stabilization of one tunnel and earthworks are ongoing.

Construction of Kobuleti bypass road is important for the development of Adjara region, also for the development of tourism, from economic and ecological point of view as well. After completion of mentioned project, transit traffic will be diverted from the coastline to the bypass road, thus making movement toward Tbilisi-Batumi direction rather comfortable and requiring far less travel time.

Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, George Amashukeli and Chairman of Roads Department, Davit Shavliashvili also visited the coast along international Senaki-Poti-Sarpi road to examine the progress of shore protection works in Sarpi. Shore protection works in Sarpi are implemented by “State Construction Company” Ltd. At this stage the works for enhancement of 2 km section of the coastline with tetrapods and arrangement of nets to protect mountainous area from the rockfall are underway. Shore protection activities in the amount of GEL 30 million are financed from the state budget.
