ADB mission conducts monitoring of the construction of Kobuleti bypass road

Deputy Chairman of Roads Department Mr. Irakli Litanishvili and representative of Asian Development Bank mission Mr. Prianka Seneviratne visited Kobuleti bypass road to monitor the construction process. The working meeting was also attended by Archil Jorbenadze, project coordinator of Eurasian Transport Corridor Investment Center, Murman Katsitadze, Consultant for project implementation and Giorgi Kiziria, representative of Asian Development Bank.

Construction of Kobuleti bypass road is financed by Asian Development Bank. At mentioned meeting the parties have discussed progress of civil works.

Construction of Lot I - 12.4 km section of Kobuleti bypass road was completed last year. As to the civil works for Lot II of Kobuleti bypass, the works are performed by Chinese company Sinohydro that won the tender. Asphalt-concrete pavement will be constructed on mentioned section; 16 bridges, 7 underpasses, 2 tunnels and 64 culverts will be also constructed within the scope of the project.  

Construction of Lot II of Kobuleti bypass road commenced in 2013 and will be completed in spring 2016. Cost of the project amounts to GEL 209 million.

E-70 highway, passing through the seaside cities of Adjara and distinguished by quite a high traffic intensity, has been causing inconvenience to local population and tourists over the years. After construction of mentioned road, transit traffic will be transferred from the seaside of Adjara to the new road which will contribute to the improvement of ecological situation in resorts and development of tourism in the region.
