UN GLOBAL ROAD SAFETY WEEK KICKS OFF IN GEORGIA

On April 23, Georgia Alliance for Safe Roads and UN Representation in Georgia marked the opening of the Road Safety Week in Georgia with a conference, which was held at Sheraton Metechi Palace Hotel. Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, George Amashukeli and Deputy Chairman of RD Vazha Panchulidze attended the conference.

Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, George Amashukeli made a speech and introduced to the attendees the measures taken and planned by the Ministry in terms of road safety.  

Launch of the one-year social-educational project for road safety – “Yield to the Pedestrian” took place at the conference. The project aims to raise awareness of the drivers and the pedestrians on the road safety issues and decrease the number of fatalities and injuries caused by traffic accidents.

The massage of UN Global Road Safety Week is as follows: - “road safety is not accidental” thus implies decrease of road accidents by means of active involvement of state, civil and private sectors and close collaboration.
