Prime-Minister of Georgia visited the works on Kobuleti by-pass road

Today the Prime-Minister of Georgian Mr. Irakli Garibashvili along with the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Mr. David Narmania and the Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund Mr. Elguja Khokrishvili visited the construction works on Kobuleti by-pass road. The officials got familiarized with the course of the project and the quality of works. 
The Roads Department of Georgia under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure implements construction works on Kobuleti by-pass road through financing from the loan disbursed by ADB and co-financing from the state budget. 
E-70 Highway crossing coastal cities in Ajara, distinguished with its high level of traffic flow has created problems for local population and tourists. 12.4 km section of Kobuleti by-pass road was finished and commissioned in October, 2013. Concrete cover has been laid, 13 culverts and 3 underground passes have been constructed. Water conductive pipes, gutters and other types of drainage systems at the connections to local roads and entrances of private land plots have been arranged. 14 cross-over bridges have been built: total cost of the project was GEL 115 mln 500 thousand. The works have been finished within the terms considered by the contract.        
Construction of the following 18.8 km section started in 2013 and will be finished in 2016. In 2013 works of arranging sub-base of the road, iron-concrete piles on road-passes and bridges have been implemented on the above-mentioned section. After the construction of this section, the first stage of the by-pass road will be finished.  
Total cost of the first lot is GEL 115 mln 500 thousand while the cost of the second lot is around GEL 210 mln (which will be spent before 2016, within the period of finalization of the project).
Arrangement of 18.8 km long road with the asphalt-concrete cover, construction of 16 bridges, 4 road-passes, 2 tunnels, and 64 water conductive pipes is planned on the second section of the Kobuleti by-pass road.
Construction of the road will result in switching the traffic from the coastline of Ajara to the new road which will support environmental sanitation and development of tourism in the region.
In addition, construction of the road will facilitate the issue of movement of local population as well as of transit.
The works are carried out by the company “Sinohydro.” 550 workers are employed for the construction.
